Profile
Inside the ring.
Uila Mau'u (full legal name Leuila Mau'u) is a Samoan-Kiwi heavyweight from South Auckland, New Zealand. Before boxing, he served eleven years in the New Zealand Defence Force.
On the amateur circuit he was 2022 New Zealand Amateur Boxer of the Year, won super heavyweight bronze at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, took New Zealand National Amateur super heavyweight gold in 2019, and competed at the Asia and Oceania Olympic Qualification Tournament in 2020. He turned pro in February 2023.
In February 2024 he took the South Pacific Heavyweight title via a stinging second-round TKO over Richard Tutaki in Takapuna. Notably short for a modern heavyweight at 6-foot-1, he relies on hand speed, footwork, and angles in a division that often defaults to size, a profile that has drawn comparisons to old-school cruiserweight-sized heavyweights.
