Profile

Inside the ring.

Gurgen Hovhannisyan is a 6-foot-7 Armenian heavyweight based in Los Angeles, where he trains under veteran West Coast coach Joe Goossen. Born in Yerevan in 1998, he turned pro in 2021 in Bakersfield, California, and has been undefeated since.

His record is built on power: nine knockouts in ten fights. He has spoken openly about the goal of becoming the first Armenian heavyweight world champion, a long-standing target for the country's boxing program, and a 2023 booking against former world champion Charles Martin was scrapped only because Hovhannisyan was forced to withdraw with an injury.

On the iVB Boxing card he meets fellow undefeated heavyweight Uila Mau'u, a matchup of two 10-0 prospects with nine knockouts each, an unusually clean style-vs-style proving ground at this stage of either career.
