Profile
Inside the ring.
Gerardo Luis Vergara, known in Argentine boxing as "El Tifón" (The Typhoon), is a southpaw middleweight from Bahía Blanca on the Atlantic coast of Argentina. He came to the sport late, taking his first amateur fight at age twenty in December 2013, and turned professional four years later.
In August 2021 he won the Argentine Middleweight Championship, becoming the first middleweight champion from Bahía Blanca since Carlos María Giménez in 1971, a fifty-year gap. He has defended the title multiple times against domestic challengers.
Vergara made his international debut in December 2024 against the unbeaten American contender Charles Conwell, on Conwell's home card in Ontario, California. He pushed the favourite hard before being stopped in the seventh round, the only loss on his record. He has trained briefly in Los Angeles, including time on the pads with Freddy Roach at Wild Card.
